Read all about my stay at the Monterey Beach Hotel that is true to its name, offering stunning ocean views and a relaxing, cozy stay.

During my Big Sur trip, I made Monterey my base since I also wanted to drive along California’s famous 17-Mile Drive. I was looking for a beachfront hotel near Monterey Bay that wouldn’t break the bank, and that’s when I discovered the Monterey Beach Hotel. Not only did it offer gorgeous views, but its prices were also more reasonable compared to other nearby options.

The hotel is conveniently located just off Highway 1 and is less than a ten-minute bike ride from Fisherman’s Wharf, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreational Trail. Plus, it’s a pet-friendly hotel and welcomes dogs up to 50 pounds for an additional fee.

Here’s a quick video tour of the hotel and glimpses of our stay at Monterey Beach Hotel.

The room at Monterey Beach Hotel

room at Monterey Beach Hotel Review

My first impression of the room was — wow! Given the price, I had high expectations, and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. The room had two queen beds, stylish interiors, and modern fittings, all thoughtfully designed for comfort. I was traveling with a friend, and the space felt generous enough for both of us to move around easily and store our luggage without feeling cramped.

We chose a garden-facing room with a view of the highway since it was more budget-friendly. That said, ocean-facing rooms are also available if you’re willing to splurge a little for those stunning Pacific views.

Room cost: $410 for a night including additional parking fee

Facilities and Amenities at Monterey Beach Hotel

lobby Monterey Beach Hotel Review

One of the best parts of staying at the hotel was the direct beach access that’s just a few steps from the deck! The hotel also had a cozy lobby with ocean views, a bar offering craft cocktails, and a spacious oceanfront deck complete with a fireplace and breathtaking views.

The pool area was a highlight too, with a large swimming pool and a separate hot tub. The only drawback was that both were outdoors with no shade, which could be a bit much on hot, sunny days.

As a thoughtful welcome, we received a complimentary glass of wine and a s’mores kit, which we thoroughly enjoyed while listening to the soothing sound of crashing waves.

One thing I wish had been included was complimentary parking. As hotel guests, it would’ve been nice to have this basic facility covered in the stay.

Dining at Monterey Beach Hotel

Dining Monterey Beach Hotel Review

The hotel offers two dining options — The Lantern Room, a restaurant with a coastal-inspired menu and panoramic views of Monterey Bay, and The Bayside Bar and Lounge, which serves handcrafted cocktails along with local beers and wines.

We headed to The Lantern Room for breakfast. The menu featured all kinds of classic American breakfast options. I ordered avocado toast, which was topped with scrambled eggs and some greens. My friend went with an omelet that came with a side of potatoes. The taste wasn’t the best, but it was filling and came with a great view.

Breakfast cost: $80 for two

Conclusion

Monterey Beach Hotel Review

Overall, it was a lovely stay, and I especially loved the location. As an early riser, I really appreciated being so close to the beach — I was able to enjoy peaceful morning walks and watch a breathtaking sunrise right from the hotel.

As I mentioned earlier, for the price we paid, it would’ve been nice if parking was complimentary and if at least a basic hot breakfast had been included.
