Coastal Washington is home to several stunning islands and landmasses scattered across the Puget Sound region. From the mighty San Juan Islands in the north to charming port towns like Bremerton and Port Townsend, there’s plenty to explore.

In this blog post, I’ll share a list of ferry-accessible destinations that offer a chance to discover quaint towns often hidden in plain sight—each one absolutely stunning.

Washington’s ferry system is the largest in the United States and the second-largest vehicular ferry system in the world. A visit to Seattle (or any other city in Washington State) feels incomplete without experiencing a ferry ride. It’s also one of the cheapest and most sustainable ways to reach these islands. Plus, every island or port city has its own public transportation system, making it easy to get around without a car.

I highly recommend trying at least one of these routes. And here’s the cherry on top: if you’re boarding from Seattle, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the city’s skyline from the water.
