Looking for a budget hotel near Yellowstone National Park or Craters of the Moon National Monument that’s perfect for a day trip? I have the best hotel for you! Here’s a detailed review of my stay at Shilo Inn Hotel in Idaho Falls, which was the perfect base for my Idaho trip.

We chose Idaho Falls as our base because it was located roughly equal distance from all the spots we wanted to visit on our Idaho itinerary. Moreover, the location of this hotel was amazing, set right by the river and surrounded by greenery. It was the perfect place to stay, especially with a room rate of under $100.

First Look and Check-In Experience at Shilo Inn

The property was huge, with a big parking area, and it was located right next to the highway, so it was easy to find. The lobby was spacious and well-decorated; I specifically remember the beautiful chandelier and the carpet.

As we were entering, we saw a large tour group checking in. Despite that, our check-in was fast and smooth, and we got our room within five minutes. The staff seemed friendly, and everything went smoothly, after which we explored the hotel a bit since it looked promising.

Facilities and Amenities at Shilo Inn, Idaho Falls

The hotel had a large garden area at the back with direct access to the river. They also had a few tables set up outside where we enjoyed our breakfast the next morning. The dining area was big, with a well-lit seating space overlooking the river and the garden. Moreover, they offered a complimentary hot breakfast for all guests.

The pool was large, with a separate hot tub section that offered a view of the river. The gym had all the essential equipment, along with a sauna and a steam room. Both were accessible 24 hours a day. The property also had a business center and meeting rooms. Plus, it’s a dog-friendly hotel, though an additional fee may apply.

Our Room at Shilo Inn, Idaho Falls

We booked a king room, and it was very spacious. It felt more like a suite than a regular hotel king room since it also had a small kitchen area. The bathroom was huge, with all the toiletries neatly arranged. The bed was comfortable, and one of my pet peeves is dull lighting, but the good thing is that the room was well lit.

Breakfast at Shilo Inn, Idaho Falls

Our breakfast experience at Shilo Inn was the most memorable part of our stay. They had a hot bar with a variety of breakfast items, from muffins to sausages and eggs, all the breakfast staples, but with more variety, I would say. The dining area was spacious and well lit, and the best part was that they had chairs set up outside so guests could dine in the garden area. The quality of the food was good, and the coffee tasted decent.

What I Loved About Shilo Inn Hotel

This was my first time staying at a Shilo Inn hotel property, which is an independently owned hotel chain with locations in multiple cities across the USA. What I loved the most was its location, the number of amenities available on the property, and their overall quality. It was just a 5-minute drive from the main I-15 highway, offered free parking, and was right next to the Snake River. Moreover, the pricing was definitely an added bonus. I’ve stayed at multiple mid-tier hotels, but this one definitely tops the list.
