Take your shopping experience to a new height at the world’s one of THE BEST shopping destinations. Dubai is home to the biggest shopping mall in the world, The Dubai Mall, located in the heart of Dubai Downtown. It hosts two of the biggest shopping festivals, the Dubai Shopping Festival and Summer Surprises Festival which attracts millions of people to the land of Sheikh every year.

I was glad to attend the Shopping Festival in 2016 and witness the madness. It was the last day of the Festival, and the retail outlets were giving out crazy discounts. However, I went more as a spectator than a participant.

P.S: Not a shopping enthusiast, unless there’s a camera on sale! 😉

The Dubai Mall is more than just a rendezvous of top retail outlets. Spend a day at the mall to explore unique experiences, from an underwater zoo to opera. Here’s a list of 3 must-do things at the Dubai Mall.

At the Top, Burj Khalifa

Head to Burj Khalifa the tallest building in the world to get a splendid 360-degree view of the city. Ride one of the fastest elevators in the world and reach the 125th level in 60 seconds. Enjoy the bird’s eye view from three different levels (124, 125 and 148). You can also take home a beautiful miniature of Burj Khalifa from the souvenir shop on the 125th floor.

How to reach – The entrance to At the Top is from the ground floor of the Dubai Mall.

Ticket & Timings – At the Top remains open seven days a week, from 8:30 am – 10 pm. The last entry to the deck is 45 minutes before closing.

Pre-book your tickets to avoid long queues. 124th & 125th-floor combo ticket is the best and the cheapest option available. However, if you want to get a taste of luxury then go for the 124, 125 & 148th-floor combo ticket that includes special privileges.

Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo

Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is home to more than 33,000 aquatic animals and the world’s largest crocodiles King Croc and his Queen at the Underwater Zoo. Explore the sand tiger sharks, stingrays and other beautiful species and gets fascinating insights about marine life.

How to reach – Located opposite to Gosport outlet on the ground floor. For Underwater Zoo, take the elevator adjacent to the Aquarium entrance to reach the second floor.

Ticket & Timings – Open only on weekdays, from Sunday to Thursday 12 pm – 10 pm. The last admission is at 9 pm. You can directly walk in or buy the tickets online. However, I recommend booking your tickets in advance to avoid last-minute availability issues.

The Dubai Fountain Show

Watch the marvellous water show at the world’s tallest performing fountain set on the Burj Khalifa Lake. The fountain features 6,000 light, 25 coloured projectors, and 22,000 gallons of water performing an astonishing choreography of water, sound and light synced to Arabic and world music that will leave you breathless. You can watch the show from the mall complex or hop on a traditional water taxi called “abra” to get a closer view.

How to reach – Exit Fashion avenue to reach the fountain located at the foot of Burj Khalifa.

Ticket & Timings – The show happens every day from 6 pm to 11 pm at an interval of 30 minutes and is completely free. For a boat ride, you can directly walk in or buy the tickets online.

Other Unique experiences at the Dubai Mall

There are plenty of additional unique attractions that you can add to your list. Experience the sheer pleasure of gliding along the ice at the Dubai Ice Rink. Face your deepest and darkest fears at Hysteria. Immerse yourself in the world of Virtual Reality at VR Park. Enjoy world-class live performances at the Dubai Opera and feel the adrenalin rushing through your veins at the Ekart Zabeel‘s indoor electric go-karting.
