Imagine a hot and dry summer day. It’s a sweltering 110 F outside.🌡️ Yep! That is what New Delhi looks like for the better part of the year. Last year, I moved to Seattle, Washington, a city that rains about 150 days a year! ⛈️

Now, don’t get me wrong, Seattle is gorgeous, and I love this place, but wet socks do occasionally create problems in our near-perfect relationship. I am a part-time photographer and an avid traveler. I do a ton of walking, scouting for locations to click that perfect, ‘Gram worthy’ snap as well as for fun! Soon after moving to Seattle, I realized my regular sneakers were absolutely inadequate for the rains. It was either clunky rain boots 👢 or wet feet.

Not one to settle, I kept looking for more options. That’s when I came across Vessi’s Instagram feed, a footwear company from our neighbors up north in Vancouver, Canada. I got two pairs of the Everyday Move sneakers, the slip-on kind for me and the one with laces for Abhi, both in all black.

Our first impression of Vessi

First things first, these shoes are genuinely 100% waterproof. To test this, I dunked my feet into the water 🌊, and not a single drop entered the shoe. Vessi has nailed down the waterproofing with their patented Dymatex material. It is the first dual-climate knit material that regulates temperature, keeping us warm during winter and helping us escape sweat and heat during summer. Moreover, the shoes are 100% Vegan and use 99% of knit material during production, which helps in reducing the company’s carbon footprint, allowing them to save energy and production waste.

Look and feel

Coming to how these shoes look and feel, they look sleek, stylish, and functional 👍. They fit a bit too snug for the first couple of days of use, and both Abhishek and I went through a bit of shoe bite. But soon after that, the shoes seemed to stretch to a truly comfortable fit. After about a week, both of us had broken into our respective pairs, and we agreed that the fit was perfectly comfortable. Vessi runs true to size. I am a US size 6, and I ordered the same. Abhishek is a size 9.5 on some brands while 10.5 on some others. Vessi doesn’t offer half sizes, so he chose a size 10.

Fit and overall experience

The shoes are breathable too. Over the past few weeks, I have strolled, hiked ⛰️, and wandered around in these for several hours, and not once did my feet feel stuffy or cramped. They are also reasonably lightweight, making them a good choice for long walks. I would not recommend this as a replacement for your hiking shoes on crazy challenging hikes, but Vessis can handle your light hikes without breaking a sweat 💪. Vessis can be worn without socks, and I can see why. The shoes have a hugging sock-like quality allowing our feet to breathe and roam around without wearing one.

As far as maintainability goes, these shoes are easy to clean. Vessi recommends using a mild detergent and warm water. These are not machine-washable.

Overall, we have been loving our Vessis. They look good, keep our feet dry, and feel comfortable. Vessi is a must-have for every Seattleite and for anyone in cities that get a lot of rain. You can also buy other waterproof accessories like hats, masks, socks, all weather beanies and gloves.
