If you love everything about tea and are looking for the perfect tea set, I’ve got one for you. I recently got my first porcelain tea set that not only looks traditionally gorgeous but also comes with modern features.

Tea has been around for thousands of years, with its roots tracing back to ancient China. Legend tells us that Emperor Shen Nong discovered it around 2737 BCE, when a few wild tea leaves drifted into his boiling water. From that moment, tea grew into more than just a drink—it became a ritual, a source of comfort, and even a driver of trade across the globe.

My Connection with Tea

For me, tea has always been more than just a beverage. Growing up in India, it was central to family gatherings, entertaining guests, or simply winding down in the evening. A pot of chai paired with hot, fried snacks was the perfect way to bring everyone together. There’s a special kind of magic in the way tea warms you on a rainy day, both literally and emotionally.

Finding the Perfect Tea Spot in Seattle

After moving to Seattle, I sought out places that could give me that same sense of connection and comfort. One of my favorite spots quickly became the tearoom at the historic Panama Hotel in the International District. Built over a century ago by Seattle’s first Japanese American architect, the hotel carries a layered history. Today, its tearoom offers a selection of herbal and fruit teas that feel especially welcoming on crisp fall evenings.

The atmosphere is what I love most—the creak of historic wood floors, the glow of cozy lighting, and a calm stillness that makes you want to linger with a pot of tea. Their blueberry rooibos is a favorite of mine, as is the peach blossom white tea. And, to make things even better, the tearoom has a resident cat that adds to the warmth of the space.

My First Tea Set from Umi Tea Sets

Of course, I can’t always make it out to the tearoom, so I’ve been exploring ways to bring that same experience into my home. That’s how I came across Umi Tea Sets, a brand that beautifully marries traditional Chinese tea culture with modern functionality. Their collections reflect both artistry and practicality, designed for people who love the ritual of tea but also appreciate clever innovation. They have a wide variety of tea sets, ranging from wedding gift sets to travel sets to tea-for-one sets.

I got their Blue and White Porcelain Automatic Lazy Tea Set. It’s a perfect blend of elegance and convenience, but more importantly, it fits right into the hot beverage nook of my kitchen. The porcelain features a classic blue-and-white motif, instantly evoking a timeless, traditional feel. But what makes it truly unique is its design. With a simple rotation of the top part of the teapot, the tea pours effortlessly—no spills, no fuss. I had wondered why it was called a “lazy” tea set, but now it makes sense: it’s made for those moments when you want the beauty of the tea ritual without the extra effort.

For me, this tea set has become a small luxury at home. Whether I’m starting my morning with masala tea or winding down in the evening with something herbal, it brings a sense of ease and mindfulness to the moment. Tea has always been about slowing down and savoring, and with this tea set, that ritual becomes even more enjoyable.
