I’m a huge animal lover, no matter what the animal is. I love petting them uncontrollably or simply admiring them from afar (especially the wild ones). This led me to seek out cafés and stores with resident cats and dogs, places where you can pet them or at least watch their antics. And I’m happy to say I found a few in Seattle that you’ll love, especially if you’re a cat person.
In this blog post, I’ll share how you can have a purr‑fect day in Seattle exploring cat cafés, bookstores, and a few cat‑themed restaurants, places that may not have cats, but whose décor definitely does! Additionally, I’ll share some resources if you’re looking to adopt a cat or buy essentials for your cats, so be sure to read till the end. This is an ever‑growing list that I’ll keep updating whenever I find cool cat‑related places, so bookmark it or pin it for later.
Cat Cafés for Good Coffee, Cute Cats & Cat Merch
Starting with the most obvious: cat cafés! These are places where you can watch cats in their element and even interact with them. Each café mentioned below offers both a viewing area and dedicated petting sessions. One of them even hosts yoga with cats, which is a fun activity to do with your cat‑loving friends. Here’s a list of cat cafés you can visit in Seattle.
Seattle Meowtropolitan, Wallingford

Seattle Meowtropolitan is one of the first cat cafés in the city, with a large space for its resident cats. You can either watch them from the coffee shop while enjoying their “catpuccino” or book a 25- or 50‑minute petting session. They also host weekly yoga classes, which they call “Meowga”, cool right? 😹

Neko Cat Cafe, Capitol Hill
Neko Cat Cafe is another popular spot to watch or play with adorable cats. It’s one of my favorite hangout places in the Capitol Hill neighborhood; I love the cozy vibe and all the cute merchandise they have. I still have the cat headband I bought back in 2021 and just picked up a new one in blue this Sunday. The cat play area is a bit smaller compared to Meowtropolitan, but you’ll still have a wonderful time interacting with the cats and relaxing in the cafe.

Panama Hotel Tea & Coffee, Japantown

Now, Panama Hotel isn’t exactly a “cat café,” but it does have a resident cat named Mew Mew, who is absolutely adorable. I remember watching him the entire time while I sipped my hibiscus tea. This tea house is located inside the historic Panama Hotel in Japantown and is a must-visit for both tea and cat lovers.

The Whole Cat and Kaboodle, Kirkland
If you’re on Eastside, you can visit The Whole Cat and Kaboodle in Kirkland. This cat-focused space features a cat café, an adoption lounge, and a boutique. While it doesn’t have a separate café area, refreshments are part of the petting experience. The setup feels like a cozy living room, with free-roaming cats and self-serve beverages.

Stores Where Cats Are Part of the Experience
Twice Sold Tales, Capitol Hill
Twice Sold Tales in Capitol Hill is one of my favorite bookstores in Seattle; not just because of its adorable resident cats, but also for its incredible collection. The store has six resident cats that will happily keep you company while you browse through their vast selection. They also have a branch in Ballard, which has a few resident cats of its own.

Ophelia’s Books, Fremont
If you find yourself in Fremont, I recommend stopping by a cozy secondhand bookstore called Ophelia’s Books, which boasts a wonderful collection of fiction and mystery titles. The shop has two resident cats, Boris and Arkady, whom you can meet and interact with, and there’s a comfy sofa where you can sit and read before buying.

Magnolia Garden Center, Magnolia
This sprawling nursery in the Magnolia neighborhood is home to a cat named Slinky, who loves to play hide-and-seek while you browse the plants. Restaurants with Purr-sonality: Cat-Themed Décor

Black Cat Bar
Black Cat Bar in Belltown is a rock‑’n’‑roll‑inspired neighborhood spot with great food, music, and pinball machines. Cool enough? If that’s not reason enough to stop by, they also have a mural space next door, with a stunning cat mural that happens to be one of my favorites.
Location: 2132 1st Ave (Any bus heading downtown)
Hours: Daily, 2 PM – 2 AM
Kudedon Chirashi Bowl Restaurant
This chirashi spot in downtown Seattle has nothing to do with cats, except for the decor that caught my eye. The restaurant has a bunch of Maneki-neko (lucky cat) statues outside, cheerfully waving at everyone who passes by. I always make sure to stop here, if not for the chirashi bowl, then simply to admire the charming decor.

More Cat Resources
Like I said, this list is ever-growing, and I’ll keep updating it as I discover new cat-themed spots! In the meantime, if you’re looking to adopt or shop for cat products, here are a few resources I’ve found.
Adopting a cat in Seattle
Seattle has several great shelters and cat‑specific rescues to choose from, including the cat cafes I’ve mentioned above. Here are a few more in the city that offer adoption and forster care services:
- PAWS Cat City (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) – is a cat-only adoption center located in University District (5200 Roosevelt Way NE, Suite B). Their public adoption hours are roughly 12–6 PM on weekdays and 11 AM – 5 PM on weekends.
- Seattle Humane – Large, well‑established shelter in Bellevue with a big selection of cats and kittens; all are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines, and adoption fees include over $500 in services.
- Seattle Animal Shelter – City‑run shelter in Seattle that adopts cats from its Interbay facility and foster homes; most pets can go home the same day after counseling and paperwork.
- Seattle Area Feline Rescue – North Seattle–based, no‑kill, cat‑only rescue offering same‑day, low‑barrier cat and kitten adoptions with a strong focus on matchmaking.
- MEOW Cat Rescue – Kirkland shelter dedicated to cats, with a limited‑intake, high‑care approach; you browse adoptable cats online and then visit to finalize.
