This Mother’s Day reminded me of a beautiful day spent with my mom at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri, Delhi. Both of us love to travel, and she knows I can’t help turning even the most routine errands into little expeditions. So when we came to Chanakyapuri for a visa renewal appointment, we decided to finally visit this park she had been meaning to see for years, but somehow never got around to.
If you’re looking for ideas to take your mom on a date this Mother’s day, use this exact itinerary and I guarantee you’ll have a beautiful day with your mom. Other spots that my mom loved are National Rail Museum, and Sunder Nursery.
Nehru Park is an 80‑acre oasis tucked in the heart of South Delhi, surrounded by dense rows of bright amaltas and gulmohar trees. If you visit in the summer, you’ll see the paths almost entirely covered in yellow as the amaltas bloom, giving the park a golden glow.
Best time to visit Nehru Park
Morning is the best time to visit Nehru Park. You’ll find several groups of morning walkers and joggers, older couples enjoying a quiet stroll, and friends sipping tea on the benches. The park is also dog‑friendly, so you’ll spot many dog parents walking their pets along the shaded paths.
- Hours: Daily, 5 AM – 8 PM (winter) & 9 PM (summer)
- Entry Fee: Free
- Location: Niti Marg, Chanakyapuri
- Nearest Metro: Lok Kalyan Marg (Yellow Line)
Birdwatching and greenery

What I loved most was how green and peaceful the space felt. The canopy of trees brings in all kinds of birds and small critters. In about two hours, I spotted more than 20 bird species and had a lovely time just watching them, especially near the park’s feeding area.

Surprise feature: the colorful suspension bridge
Another highlight was the colorful suspension bridge right in the middle of the park. It would have been even more magical if the creek underneath still carried water, but even dry, it makes for a lovely photo spot and a fun little detour during your walk.
Brunch in Chanakyapuri after Nehru Park
After our walk, we headed to Caara at Ogaan, a quirky brunch spot in Malcha Marg. The restaurant is set inside a boutique, which felt very on‑brand for my mom’s love of art and design. And the vibe was of a European cafe, including the crockery and decor. Another great alternative is Diggin Cafe, this place is known for its stunning floral decor and food. However, expect a long wait time, especially on the weekends.
Mom wanted to try avocado toast, so we ordered a plate of that along with eggs Benedict, which was absolutely delicious. To round it off, we had iced tea and lemonade, perfect for the Delhi summer. Coffee would have added too much heat, and we simply weren’t in the mood for iced coffee.

Overall, it was a beautiful day spent exploring this hidden gem in Chanakyapuri, Delhi, a perfect mix of greenery, birdwatching, and a relaxed brunch with my mom. It turned into one of those simple but unforgettable afternoons, and I’m sure it will remain a Mother’s Day memory to remember.
