Let’s be honest: Maui is not a budget destination. Hotels in Ka’anapali and Wailea will happily charge you $500–$800+ a night, and that’s before the resort fees. We were only in Maui for three days, so we were looking for accommodation that was centrally located to all the places we wanted to visit. When we found Maui Seaside Hotel in Kahului for around $325 a night, it felt like a relative win.
The hotel sits along Kahului Bay, with direct waterfront access, a beach, and a location that’s very close to the airport, the starting point of the Road to Hana, and just an hour from Haleakalā National Park. For our itinerary, staying here made perfect sense.

First Impression of Maui Seaside Hotel
Despite being a budget hotel, Maui Seaside Hotel made a great first impression. The lobby was spacious, and I particularly loved the décor and lighting. There was plenty of room to relax and unwind, which is always something I appreciate. Overall, it felt more like a budget-friendly resort than a typical motel.
The pool was large and overlooked Kahului Bay, giving us waterfront vibes without the waterfront resort price tag. There were also complimentary cabanas for guests to use, which was a nice touch. I’ll talk more about the amenities later, but overall, our first impression was very positive.
The Room
The hotel offers two room types: Traditional Rooms and Renovated Rooms with more modern interiors. We chose the Traditional Standard Two Doubles room, which came with two queen beds and comfortably accommodated four people.
The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. Nothing luxurious, but it had everything we needed. It included air conditioning, a mini fridge, a microwave, and a coffee station.
The bathroom was spacious, clean, and functional. If you’re someone who spends most of the day exploring and simply needs a comfortable place to sleep, this room does the job perfectly.
Hotel Amenities
Besides the comfortable rooms, the hotel offers several amenities and activities, especially if you’re staying for a longer trip.
One of the complimentary activities was lei making. Although I couldn’t find any information about it on the hotel’s website, we were told about it during check-in, and there were sign-up sheets in the lobby for upcoming sessions.
The hotel also had water refill stations, which we found incredibly useful since we could refill our bottles instead of buying plastic water bottles every day.
There was also a game zone with several board games, making it a fun option for families or groups looking to relax after a day of sightseeing.
What We Loved About Maui Seaside Hotel
The biggest advantage of staying here is the location. Kahului is a practical base for exploring the entire island. The airport is only 10 minutes away, the Road to Hana begins about 20 minutes east, and West Maui is roughly 30–45 minutes away.
There are also plenty of local bakeries, restaurants, and small businesses nearby, especially in downtown Kahului and Paia, which is only about 15 minutes from the hotel.
Tante’s Island Cuisine is located right on the property and serves a delicious mix of Hawaiian and Filipino cuisine. Having a restaurant on-site made dinner easy, we simply walked downstairs, ordered a couple of Mai Tais, and enjoyed some delicious lumpia after a long day of exploring.
One thing I especially appreciated was the absence of resort fees. Many hotels in Hawaii charge an additional $30–$50 per night for amenities you may never use, so it was refreshing not to deal with that here.
Being so close to the water also meant my mornings often started with peaceful walks along the bay, watching the docked cruise ships and enjoying the calm atmosphere.
What to Expect
I wanted to include this section to help set realistic expectations.
Kahului is a working town rather than a resort destination, so the surrounding area isn’t as glamorous as Ka’anapali or Wailea. If you’re dreaming of staying right on a postcard-perfect beach, I’d recommend looking at Lahaina or Kihei instead.
However, if you want a convenient base that’s close to local restaurants, everyday Maui life, and many of the island’s major attractions, this hotel is an excellent choice.
The Traditional Rooms are fairly basic, similar to what you’d expect from a well-maintained motel. If you’d like a more modern aesthetic, I’d recommend booking one of the renovated rooms.
Also, some of the complimentary activities offered by the hotel take place at a nearby location about a 10-minute walk away rather than on the property itself.
Overall Thoughts
For $325 a night in Maui, including parking, with no resort fees, an on-site restaurant, and a central location, I’d absolutely stay here again. The money we saved on accommodation went straight into experiences and great food, exactly where I wanted it to go.
Our stay was comfortable, affordable, and surprisingly enjoyable. With such a packed itinerary, I honestly didn’t need anything more. If we’d had an extra day, I probably would have spent it relaxing in one of the poolside cabanas.
Overall, I’d give Maui Seaside Hotel 4 out of 5 stars and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a budget-friendly, waterfront hotel in Maui.
