There is a theme park in Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan that will take you around the world for just 50 bucks! The Waste to Wonder park is a newly added gem to the city. You would surely get astonished by the innovation of SDMC (South Delhi Municipal Corporation) by converting 150 tonnes of waste into such beautiful wonders.

The park resides next to Delhi’s one of the busiest inter-city bus terminal. You can reach here easily by Metro (Nizamuddin Station – Pink line). The ticket costs 50 INR and comes with a time limitation of 4 hours. However, this is sufficient for sightseeing, keeping in mind the size of the park.

Tip: Don’t climb the Sarai Kale Khan flyover if you’re coming by road from the Barapullah (Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu). Keep left of the flyover to enter the parking of the park.

First impression of Waste to Wonder

waste-to-wonder-parkI wanted to visit the park since the day of its inauguration. Alas! I toured the Waste to Wonder park in the last week of December 2019. The entrance to the park was chaotic and flooded with hawkers. Likewise, the inside, engulfed by the selfie-lovers

Pyramid

Start your tour at the Pyramids of Giza that will leave you spellbound by its beauty. The sculpture is made entirely of metal angles, showcasing an incredible work by the artists.

Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Tower of Pisa comes next as you walk away from the Pyramids. The monument is known for its four degrees lean and hence named the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Cable wire wheels, automobile parts, truck metal sheets, clutch plates, C channels and angles are a few elements that bring to life this 39 feet tall sculpture.

Eiffel Tower

Resting next to the Tower of Pisa is a dream destination for many. This symbol of love attracts millions of tourists every year to Paris and is the most popular in this park too! Made of angles, garden benches and other automobile parts, the Eiffel Tower is a brilliant work of art.

Colosseum

Head to the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre in the world that is also known for its architectural brilliance. The sculpture comprises eleven tonnes of scrap like spare parts, metal rings, gears, car wheels and metal benches that will leave your mind to boggle.

Taj Mahal

The next is the pride of India, whose beauty the world admires. Old utensils, swings, benches, cycle rings and many automobile parts together makes this 37 feet tall structure of the Taj Mahal.

Christ the Redeemer

The iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer peeps out of the bushes as you walk closer to the exit. This statue is looming over the city of Rio from Mount Corcovado since 1931. Automobile scrap, bike chains, spring, electric pipes and angles bring to life this 25 feet-long statue.

Statue of Liberty

As you walk towards to exit, you see the Statue of Liberty, made using slides, angles, bike rim, metal sheets and other scraps.

lighting-at-waste-to-wonder-park

The park is not too big and would take approximately an hour to cover entirely. The lighting during the nighttime is mesmerising to watch. Therefore, the evening is the best time to visit the park to make the most of your time.

The park has a nice food court that serves Indian, Chinese and Fast food. A great place to dine, drink and spent quality time with your family.

Although, many monuments of this park are not a part of the ‘Wonders of the World’ list anymore. However, they will always remain one for us!
